Hello Readers!
I thought that it would be important to give you guys and gals a quick rundown of what I have been up to without having to dig through my archive. Plus I would like to keep myself accountable during my year of slow reading by sharing my monthly reading progress.
The one thing that I have noticed about my reading mood from the end of 2017 and possibly the beginning of this year is that I have been leaning towards shorter books (i.e 300 pages and less) so that I can psyche myself up to tackle my TBR pile. But the funny thing is that even though I am not actively purchasing books this year, I seem to more keen on reviewing books for Netgalley.
Though, I am more restrained my requests since I had to DNF some books that had been on my online shelf for over 3 months because I could not get to them or they were not resonating with me. I must add that when I request a book, I take my role as a reviewer seriously so it was not an easy decision to DNF the three titles below.
Did I mention that I discovered my local library? I joined the Kenya National Library. While I am not excited about their two book borrowing limit and the fact that have to pay Ksh 20 per book, I think it has helped me curb my hoarding tendencies. Yes, they have a really good selection fiction, non-fiction as well their standard academic texts. In any case, this membership reduces the risk of spending thousands of precious Kenya shillings and hating it and as I said, I will mostly be using it to access non-fiction texts for a research project that I am working.
Some good news: I read 4 books from my Unread Shelf which translates to Ksh 400 (roughly USD 4 ) as my reward which I have set aside for an undetermined goal. I am not keen on using it to purchasing more books especially now that I am a KNLS member. So, Readers, I am open to suggestions on how I can use this money productively…
